Lucy Ricardo vs. Laura Petrie

In the first scene of the I Love Lucy episode that we saw on Thursday night, Lucy was shown wearing pants. I was a little confused as I know that this was something that Mary Tyler Moore fought for, for her character Laura Petrie to wear pants on The Dick Van Dyke Show as up until then TV executives wanted all of the women on TV to be portrayed as housewives. But then again I'm wondering if because they owned Desilu, their production company, they ultimately had the final say on wardrobe? Just wondering if anyone knows anything about this?
